Former President Donald Trump has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Washington, D.C., charging him with crimes related to the 2020 presidential election. In this indictment, Mr. Trump has been charged with the following: one count of Conspiracy to Defraud the United States, relating to the methods used to try an overturn the 2020 election results; two counts of Conspiracy to Obstruct and Attempt to Obstruct an Official Proceeding, relating to the vote certification proceedings at the Capitol on January 6, 2021; and one count of Conspiracy to Violate Civil Rights, relating to attempts to reverse election results in states with close elections in 2020. The most serious of these charges carries up to 20 years in prison. Mr. Trump will plead not guilty to the charges and a trial date will likely be set.
