Donald trump was hit with a revised federal indictment for his bid to overturn the 2020 presidential election result. U.S. Special Counsel Jack Smith obtained a new revised indictment in the Washington, DC case. Prosecutors have now narrowed the charges after a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that former presidents have broad immunity from criminal prosecution. The revised indictment contains the same four charges in the original indictment, but it also narrows the focus to Mr. Trump’s role as a political candidate seeking re-election, rather than as president at the time. The new indictment hinges on witnesses largely outside the federal government, such as former Arizona House Speaker, Rusty Bowers, who prosecutors claim was pressured by Mr. Trump and his associates to call a special house session based upon assertions of voter fraud.
