Nicolas Maduro, President of Venezuela, faces a new indictment in federal court in the Southern District of New York. Mr. Maduro, is charged with narco-terrorism and conspiracy to import cocaine into the United States. His wife, Cilia Flores, the former Attorney General of Venezuela, is also charged with conspiracy to import cocaine. Mr. Maduro and his wife were captured in a U.S. military raid on Caracas. Mr. Maduro had previously been indicted on similar charges in 2020, and had been declared a “fugitive of American Justice”. The indictment charges Mr. Maduro, Ms. Flores, and other Defendants, including Mr. Maduro’s son, Nicolasito Maduro, with partnering with narcotics traffickers and narco-terrorist groups that were sending cocaine from Venezuela to the United States, through countries like Honduras, Guatemala, and Mexico. If convicted, the defendants face decades in prison. Mr. Maduro and his wife have both pled not guilty to the charges.
