Prosecutors from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office have recommended that the Menendez brothers be resentenced, which could lead to their release from prison. Lyle and Erik Menendez were both convicted of the 1989 murder of their parents in Beverly Hills. Both brothers were sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. After serving more than 30 years in prison, Lyle and Erik Menendez, now 56 and 53 years old respectively, have a chance to be resentenced and possibly be released from prison on parole. The Menendez case has been thrust back in to the spotlight because of new evidence, an army of social media defenders, and a recent television series and documentary examining their crime and trials. The prosecution has made a recommendation for resentencing to the court. If a judge agrees to conduct a resentencing hearing, then the next step for the brothers would be to appear at a parole hearing, where they can potentially be released from prison.
